Concept and form evaluation. Create a physical model to review size, appearance, user interaction or assembly space. Identify what the model represents and what it does not. A form model may not use the final material or reproduce the production process.
Functional and integrated builds. Combine relevant mechanical, hardware and software elements for a scoped trial. Define the interfaces and functions that must work together. Where a prototype uses temporary components or development boards, record the differences from the intended production design.
Iteration and production learning. Use observations and test results to prioritize changes for the next revision. Review the manufacturing method before scaling: a geometry that works in one prototype process may need redesign for another.
Connected product development. Build an enclosure and electronics assembly that supports sensor, firmware and user-interface evaluation.
Equipment redesign. Produce a revised bracket, fixture or housing so the customer can check fit and function before committing to a larger quantity.
Agree the prototype configuration, build records, test plan, findings and recommended next steps. A useful report distinguishes measured results from observations and unresolved assumptions. Connect changes to a new design revision so future builds do not repeat an old issue. Production qualification is a separate decision from successful prototype operation.
Provide sketches or design files, intended use, budget constraints, quantity and the questions the prototype must answer. State which requirements are fixed and which can be explored. Confirm materials, manufacturing route and the acceptance evidence before starting the build.
